Bill Wengeler is a science teacher here at SMCHS and at Santa Monica College. He teaches Biology, AP Biology and the Oceanography/Marine Biology upper level elective. He holds bachelor degrees in Religious Studies (from LMU) and Wildlife, Fish, & Conservation Biology (from U.C. Davis), as well as a Master of Science degree in Ecology (also from U.C. Davis). In the classroom, Bill is known to maintain high standards of academic excellence, challenging students to develop their critical thinking skills with engaging labs and coursework.
Bill has led numerous science-based field trips for his students as an outgrowth of his “No child left indoors” philosophy. Destinations have included whale-watching excursions off our local coast, the Aquarium of the Pacific, The San Diego Safari Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Florida, Costa Rica, Peru, and Yellowstone National Park, where he has worked as a summer seasonal interpretive ranger for over 20 years.
