St. Monica Catholic High School Athletics will host a week-long fundraiser for seven-year-old friend Dane Stromsborg’s Change 4 Children’s campaign, which raises funds for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The fundraiser will run September 24-29 in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
During the week, Mariner athletes will pair up to fill jars with change collected from fans, students and the entire Mariner community. Look for the jars at each Mariner home contest and practice.
Once collected, the Mariners will present the jars of change to Dane during halftime of Saturday’s 7:00 p.m. football game vs. Southlands Christian. 100% of the donations will go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, with Mariner team captains helping to select an initiative to fund. Past jars of change have funded the purchase of video game carts, books, and special holiday meals for hospitalized patients.
In addition to contributing change to the jars, the Mariner community can support the campaign by purchasing special childhood cancer awareness socks on campus for $10 and can wear the socks to school through September 28. Donations can also be made online here – enter “Go Mariners” in the “company” field.
Dane was named “Boy of the Year” by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Orange County Inland Empire chapter after bravely battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia since age four. See more on Dane’s journey here.
