In its first competition, the St. Monica High School Quiz Bowl Team placed second overall at a tournament in Irvine last Saturday. Among the competing high schools were Harvard Westlake, Arcadia, North Hollywood, Irvine and Westview. Leading the way was junior Eamon V., who spearheaded the team's inclusion among the other clubs and organizations at St. Monica this year. Eamon placed first out of thirty-six competitors at the tournament, with an incredible 59 points per game average. "Our Mariners proved on Saturday that practice pays off when we placed second overall against eight other schools in our first-ever Quiz Bowl tournament. I'm so proud to call them my teammates and look forward to a successful season, " said Eamon.
Quiz Bowl is a game show-style general knowledge contest in which teams of four buzz in to answer questions about a wide variety of subjects. The competitions test students' reaction time, breadth and depth of knowledge, and confidence in themselves and their answers. A wide variety of both local and national tournaments are held throughout the year and the Mariners can't wait for their next successful competition!
