Coach Anton Clarkson to Lead Mariner Football Program

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Coach Anton Clarkson will lead the St. Monica Catholic High School Mariner football program, Principal James Spellman announced today.

A two-time collegiate All-American quarterback who went on to play professionally, Clarkson spent the last year as the offensive coordinator and physical education teacher at Village Christian School in Sun Valley, Calif.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Clarkson to the Mariner family,” Spellman said. “He has a vision for the Mariner football program and developing well-rounded student-athletes who will excel on the field, in the classroom and in life after high school, and we look forward to collaborating with him on campus.”

“I am looking forward to being a Mariner and joining a community that focuses on personal development and family,” Clarkson said. “This is a terrific opportunity to serve as a head coach and build a competitive football program.”

Clarkson earned his Bachelor of Arts in social science from Hofstra University, where he twice earned the All-America distinction as quarterback. Before that, he was a two-time Los Angeles City Section All-City first-team selection for Venice High School.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, Coach Clarkson will be introduced to the SMCHS football team and their parents. Please join Msrg. Torgerson, Principal James Spellman, Athletic Director Frank Cruz and our community in welcoming Coach Clarkson in the faculty lounge at 6:30 p.m.
