Meal to Mentor a Mariner

Thank you to the alumni who joined us for the 8th Annual Meal to Mentor a Mariner. Members of the Class of 2018 had the opportunity to speak with "Ancient Mariners" in many different fields, asking questions and receiving valuable career and life advice. The fields included medicine, engineering, education, nursing, music, film, graphic design, law, social work, acting, psychology, marketing, marine biology, law enforcement, business, and entrepreneurship. The wise words of our alumni will be guiding forces as our seniors take the next steps toward college.

Mirror Ball Champion!

Congratulations to Ms. Kate Janson, Director and Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, and her partner, John Capo, 2018 winners of the Dancing with OUR Stars Mirror Ball Trophy! Congratulations to all of the wonderful dancers and the many contributors to this great community event!

SMCHS Students visit Southern California Colleges

Fourteen SMCHS students joined Principal Spellman, and College Counselor, Mr. Mayer, Saturday, October 21, for a Southern California College Tour. The tour was free of charge and open to all juniors and seniors. The day included visits to The Claremont Colleges, University of California, Riverside, California State University, San Bernardino, University of LaVerne, and University of Redlands. This broad range of colleges gave the students a unique perspective of the colleges available to them in the Southern California area.

An SMCHS senior shared his thoughts on the trip. "I was interested in UC Riverside before this trip but online I was not able to get a good feeling for the university. Having this opportunity to visit the school gave me a chance to meet students, tour the campus, and get a feel for the spirit of the school. The college application process is challenging and having this chance to spend a day with my classmates in a small group with our counselor was great."
