School Reopens

Dear SMCHS Community -

At 5:00pm the SMCHS & SMCES administration met and determined that barring any significant changes in the fire and air quality situation, both the elementary and high school would be open tomorrow, Friday, December 8th.

Schedule for the Remainder of Fall Semester 2017

Thank you for your patience and understanding with the closure of the school for a second day in a row. I know this has resulted in additional stress and worry for the faculty and student body - especially given that we are so close to semester finals week.  I have faith that the course study guides posted on Schoology and the adjustments to the daily schedule will decrease the impact on teachers’ instructional time and student preparation for finals.

SMCHS Students visit Southern California Colleges

Fourteen SMCHS students joined Principal Spellman, and College Counselor, Mr. Mayer, Saturday, October 21, for a Southern California College Tour. The tour was free of charge and open to all juniors and seniors. The day included visits to The Claremont Colleges, University of California, Riverside, California State University, San Bernardino, University of LaVerne, and University of Redlands. This broad range of colleges gave the students a unique perspective of the colleges available to them in the Southern California area.

An SMCHS senior shared his thoughts on the trip. "I was interested in UC Riverside before this trip but online I was not able to get a good feeling for the university. Having this opportunity to visit the school gave me a chance to meet students, tour the campus, and get a feel for the spirit of the school. The college application process is challenging and having this chance to spend a day with my classmates in a small group with our counselor was great."

College Fair Update

Students and Families: We are rescheduling our College Fair to the spring. With the date approaching, there were not enough universities committed to attend to make this offering beneficial for you or the universities. As always, we want these events to be worth your time and to be able to provide the greatest number of resources for you and your families. We have reached out to the college representatives and they have informed us that they have a much greater availability to attend college fairs in the spring. As such, we are partnering with them to find a suitable date in April. We will notify you and your parents of the rescheduled spring date as soon as it is secured. We apologize for any inconveniences that this may have caused.
